Since its founding in 2002, the Horst Görtz Institute for IT-Security (HGI) has helped to create over 20 startups, putting it in first place in Germany in the field of IT security. Startups have been founded by the HGI’s students, doctoral researchers and professors, with technologies based on research undertaken at the HGI. The spin-offs are exceptionally successful. The first generation of start-ups – zynamics, escrypt, Sirrix and isits – have been acquired by large corporate entities such as Google, Bosch, Rohde & Schwarz and TÜV Rheinland. The HGI’s unique environment, combining top-quality research, close contacts with industry partners and a large pool of excellently trained students with an entrepreneurial spirit, encourages the development of exceptionally innovative ideas.
The growing interest in starting cybersecurity startups among students over the past several years lead us to offer them the best support possible. The Institute for Internet Security – if(is) at Westphalian University of Applied Sciences also produces successful startups from science and is an important partner.
